Coco Chanel et Igor Stravinsky

Went to catch another version of a Coco Chanel show. This time round, the director focuses on her short lived love affair with Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. To me, the Coco Chanel film that portrays Audrey Tautou as Chanel is a compliment to this show, as it showed different aspects of her life. The previous film showed her struggles in life; how she transformed from an orphan to a famous designer who owned her own atelier. Here in this show, it focuses on her success and how she used her money to get what she wants in life; her being a patron to artistic performances to continue her illicit love affair with Igor and etc. To be frank, this film did not portray Chanel in very good light. It showed that her moral flaws - but who could blame her. From what I see, her relationship with Igor is one where they made use of one another. They needed each other at that point of time. Chanel needed him to fill the loneliness in her life and Igor needed her for the financial backing, without which it would be difficult for his career as a composer to progress. Chanel also became his muse, which did his music a lot of good. Their illicit love affair had helped to inject passion and energy into his music. Anna Mouglalis's portrayal of Coco Chanel is as good as Audrey Tautou. Both of them have the same je ne sais quoi air that is so alluring and attractive. Having said that, personally, I prefer Anne Fontaine's Coco avant Chanel, though I concede that it is hard to really compare the 2 films. They cover different parts of her life afterall. But the good thing about the Chanel movies is that they have an ending, especially if the lacking of a proper ending is your pet peeve =)
