Today marks a significant day for many Singaporeans and Malaysians alike. After serving us for almost 80 years, the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station is to vacate and the land will be returned to the Singapore government. One can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia at the thought of it. I happen to have a light day at work thus decided to spend the afternoon exploring the train station as well as to take some photographs to remember this iconic landmark of Singapore.
I took this shot of the departure hall through a gate. This area is closed to the public and apparently only some big shots were allowed in.
Shops that have once been essential to the travellers. Delicious food at the train station will be missed by many Singaporean foodies...
As evident from the photo, there were many visitors at the train station today. Once the clock strikes 12 midnight, the train station will officially cease operation. Many people were also snatching up the memorabilia on sale at the various makeshift counters. These include pens, t-shirts, bookmarks, mugs and etc; not very useful items at exorbitant prices!
Train tickets sold like hot cakes at the eleventh hour. The last train departs Tanjong Pagar Station at 11 tonight!
