This holiday, we were lost in the lovely town of Avignon, South of France. When we first told our friends and family we were heading to France for the summer hols, everyone naturally assumed we would only be visiting Paris. But hey, France is definitely more than just the City of Lights.
Here in Avignon, we were humbled and awed by the beauty of the landscape and the friendliness of the people, whether or not you speak french.
Here, we visited vineyards,
explored the quaint streets of Les Baux
wandered in medieval villages,
enjoyed healthy and delicious mediterranean food (which to me means great salads for most lunches),
sought out Van Gogh in Arles and St Remy,
tried for the first time olive oil tasting,
and indulged in great wine from chateauneuf des papes,
spent an entire afternoon at the roman aquaduct, Pont du Gard
had great fun looking for the best spots for pictures
and regretted not bringing a picnic basket along with us.
We ended this leg of the trip with a great dinner at the hotel's (and Avignon's only) one Michelin star restaurant that was unpretentious (no dress code) and served really great food.
Although the weather could get unbearably hot, it was a refreshing change to get away from the big cities :)
