After a long and hard day at work, the arts fanatic in me dragged the hub to the SG Night Festival. It's our 1st time at the festival though it has been running for 6 years.
We started at the National Museum where we watched 3 consecutive dance performances. There was a huge crowd by the the time we arrived and we could only manage a spot at the side. The crane here supports a pyramid structure made of ropes suspended in mid-air. With the ropes as the only form of support, dancers demonstrate their acrobatic agility as they negotiate the minimalist set.
The atmosphere was further heated up with the performance by Starlight Alchemy where various fire and LED tools were used by this eclectic group of fire and LED light artists.
The night festival is spread all over the Bras Brasah precinct - from City Hall to Plaza Singapura. We found this installation art at Chijmes titled "The Algebra of Need" where German artist Knut Eckstein invites the viewers to think about city life and our obsession with brands in the modern world.
Though the night was still young after 2 hours of walking, we were tired out and decided it was enough for us. I would say that the Night Festival has showcase a good variety of programme and performances and though not everyone can appreciate it, I think we are moving in the right direction by bringing arts closer to the masses. One thing's for sure, the festival has made SG a very vibrant and exciting place.
The SG Night Festival will run for 2 weekends (starts yesterday) and it's still not to late to catch it if you're interested.
Have a good weekend!
