"What is this life full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when roads are pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like stars at night.
No time to turn at Bearty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can,
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare"
by William Henry Davis
The above poem is one of my favourite poems of all time. Perhaps it's because I can't help but agree with the author totally. These days, we are all "Rush-sians". Rushing to go to work each weekday morning, rushing to finish work before office closes, rushing to climb up the coporate ladder as fast as we can; that we have forgotten about many of the more important things in life. It is crucial that we give ourselves time off, to spend the day and whirl away time to smell the roses that we might have missed while rushing to meet datelines.
This afternoon, I made a trip to Ann Siang Hill. Seriously, there is alot more to Singapore than just shopping malls. We just need to put in a little more effort in exploring the lesser-known areas of the city-state and one would definitely be pleasantly surprised by the hidden gems found. Just like how I found the limited edition pop-up book of Le Petit Prince. I ended the day with a visit to 'kki'. Many people raved about the cakes they serve and indeed, they were having a roaring business on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Their cakes feels so soft and smooth to the palate and the shop itself provides a cool respite to the hot afternoon heat. Will definitely be back soon for more gateaux and livres in no time!
