Land of Tchaikovsky

Good morning Moscow!

Our first stop upon arrival - the world famous St. Basel's Cathedral. I always thought this is the only church in Russia that looks so amazing. After coming here, I realized many of the Russian Orthodox churches look just as amazing, if not more amazing than St. Basel.

A must-buy for most tourists. I, however, refused to be fleeced by the vendors selling these dolls.
The really pretty, hand-painted ones cost hundreds of euros.
The cheap ones are probably just made in china.

Russia is a really colourful country. The country is wintry for most part of the year and the strong colours of the buildings and decor more than make up for the sombre atmosphere.

The burst of green after the heavy downpour at the park near Red Square.

After 2 days at the capital, we proceeded to Novgorod, the oldest Russian town.

It is quite a quiet, sleepy town but I really enjoy the peace and old world charm here. The only minus point at this stop - the mosquitoes!

Look at how quaint the buildings are in this part of Russia. Apparently, Rachmaninov was born and bred in Novgorod and the locals speak fondly of this famous pianist as he contributed immensely to the war effort in Russia during WWII.

Lovely tulips spotted at St. Petersburg. Not surprising to know that tulips are planted all over the town, given that Peter the Great, the Tsar who founded and built St. Petersburg was a fond admirer of Holland and Amsterdam.

God was really kind to us and gave us great, sunny weather in the 2nd largest city in Russia. I like how the blue contrasted so beautifully with the colourful buildings. It brings so much cheer to the city.

The 9 days trip, although not long, allowed us to see the best of what Russia had to offer.
Au revoir.
