Brugge

Deardear is out of town for 3 days and here I am sitting in the library whiling away time. Time flies... it's been a week since we're back from Paris. I have decided to blog about our trip bit by bit so that I won't feel so sick of work and it also gives me the chance to reminisce the time spent there.

Besides Paris, we also went to Brugge in Belgium. For those who do not know, Brugge is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site and is often known as the Venice of the north due to the many canals meandering through the town. It's my 2nd time there but Brugge continues to surprise and wow me. This time, I booked ourselves into De Tuilerienne under the SLH group and this is a 15th century building that has been transformed into a hotel. The fascade of the building doesn't look very impressive but the rooms are cosy and comfortable. We had a rooftop room and in the evening, we find it quaint that we can still hear horse carriages clicking away and the church chimes from afar.

The reason for us to be here in Brugge is this:

Yes! Flemish tapestries. We walked the entire town on a rainy public holiday in search of the perfect piece we wanted. In the end, we decided on the scene where Louis XIV defeated the Flemish and won the battle. With the mission accomplished, we continued with our touristy stuff the next day and we were terribly glad that Mr Sunshine decided to come say hi to us.

With the sun out, we went for our boat ride that took us through Brugge in 30 mins, walked around town and bought more handmade chocolates from Dumon. Every chocolatier in Belgium claims they are the best but it takes effort to find the authentic ones. Most chocolatiers, especially the big and popular ones have their chocolates produced in a factory to keep up with the demand from tourists like us. When we purchased the tapestry, the locals told us we have made the right choice with Dumon and agreed that it is one of the best in Brugge.

As it is, I am enjoying a piece every evening for as long as the box can last me :) School reopens tomorrow and the chocolates make me a happier person :p
